Water Leaks and burst Pipes

A burst pipe is a relatively common plumbing problem and in most circumstances it is obvious where the water is coming from. However sometimes the leak may be concealed under the ground or in a wall and the only reason you know you have a water leak is because your water bill is unusually high. In these cases you will need to get a qualified plumber out to detect the location of the leak and make the repair

What to do if you think you have a burst pipe

  1. Make sure no water is being used in the whole house, including outdoors; check all taps, inside and out, make sure the dishwasher and washing machine aren’t in use.

  2. Go out to the water meter at the front of your property and see if your meter is running. This is a sign that you have a broken water pipe or a leak somewhere on your property.

  3. Do some investigation work by walking around your property, inside and out to check for any obvious signs of a water leak.

  4. If you can see the water leak and water is gushing out at a rapid rate, turn off the water at the main water meter and call us immediately!

Here are 5 quick ways to conserve water

  1. Check for leaks - in taps, pipes and dishwasher hoses. One leaking tap can waste more than 2,000 litres per month.

  2. Install water efficient taps - this is a great, inexpensive way to cut your water usage

  3. Install a dishwasher - By using a dishwasher with at least a 3 star, you can reduce the amount of water used to wash up in half

  4. Install one of the latest 3 star showerheads. It will still provide a great shower and will save around 10 litres of water a minute.

  5. Check your water meter and bill to track your water usage. If the meter is moving when everything is off call Dr. DRiP Sydney as you may have a water leak.
